WWE NXT lost all of its Women's Champions in the WWE Draft.
In the 2023 WWE Draft lead-up, it was stated that select NXT wrestlers would be eligible. In the final round of the WWE Draft, Shawn Michaels announced that WWE NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre would be going to WWE SmackDown.
Subsequently, Road Dogg announced that Indi Hartwell, the current WWE NXT Women's Champion, would be heading to Monday Night Raw. When Indi Hartwell was shown, her foot was in a boot following her near injury on her most recent NXT Women's Championship defense at NXT Spring Breakin.'
Fyre & Dawn were interrupted by Kayden Carter & Katana Chance, who challenged the champions to a title match for the May 2 episode of WWE NXT as a way to avoid them taking the title belts to the main roster.
