In January, Fightful Select exclusively reported that White was expected to be on his way out of New Japan Pro Wrestling, which had been his home promotion for nearly eight years. Throughout his time with the company, White was a featured member of Bullet Club and a two time IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
In February, Hikuleo defeated Jay White in a Loser Leaves Japan match. A week later, White lost a Loser Leaves NJPW match to Eddie Kingston. White has not wrestled since that match and has largely stayed silent about his free agent status.
White first appeared for AEW back in February 2022, as he aiding The Young Bucks and Adam Cole in a beat down of Best Friends. White then went on to appear for AEW a few times later in the year in the build up to the Forbidden Door pay-per-view in June.
