Josh Alexander will be a free agent on February 15th when his contract with TNA Wrestling expires.
Alexander confirmed his contract status, and expiration, while speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight.
"February 15th, I'll be a free agent. TNA announced they extended me, they put a year extension on February 14 last year. Into free agency for the first time," he said.
Asked how he's feeling, Alexander said, "Equal parts nervous and equal parts excited. There is one end of the spectrum where nothing might come of this. You have to be realistic. I have kids, a wife, a house I pay for and I can do wrestling because I love it and it's all I've ever really done. Getting fulfillment is the most important part to me. As long as I get to do it at some level, I'm happy. That might be it. I might just do indies, back to doing construction, something like that. Every so often, you have to bet on yourself. Five years ago, Santana is one of my good friends. He was finishing up with IMPACT Wrestling. We had an indie date, and he debuted the next night. I didn't know that. We were chilling at the hotel. I asked, 'What made you want to leave or look at it as an option?' He was very happy at IMPACT, very successful, obviously. He was like, 'We didn't know what more we could do. We've held the tag team championships this many times. We've had this many amazing matches with this tag team. Every once and a while, you have to think about what's next and what's going to excite you.' He kind of alluded to the fact that he hasn't been excited in quite some type. That really hits because thinking about my own thing, I've done so much in TNA over the six years and I'm very grateful. Opportunities are the one thing wrestlers need and TNA has given me countless of opportunities to prove myself. I've also done everything and worked with the bulk of the talent in the company. It's all about what's going to get me excited beyond this point."
Alexander noted that he watches every promotion and sees the possibility of being anywhere.
"I'm looking at NXT going, 'Me and Ethan could tag up and face that tag team and it would be awesome.' I'd really love to have a match with Pete Dunne or Gunther. The list goes on. You watch Dynamite, and I've torn it up with Will (Ospreay) and (Konosuke) Takeshita in the past. I'd love to do that on a bigger stage. One bucket list thing I might have, a wrestler that's still wrestling that I would love to wrestle is Edge [Adam Copeland]. He's in AEW. Then, there's Japan. Shingo (Takagi) is the one guy on my bucket list where 'this is doable. I'm going to make this happen.' Him and (Tomohiro) Ishii were neck and neck. I made the Ishii match happen. Shingo is the other one. I look at the landscape of where I can go and the talent I want to work with, everyone is stacked, roster-wise. To be able to tell stories with these people, the options are open," said Alexander.
Asked if there was a certain factor that would go into his decision, Alexander replied, "Probably personal fulfillment. A bunch of things go into that. I love wrestling. I love the act of wrestling. You give me 20 minutes on TV or pay-per-view and I'll do everything I can to make magic happen. Where the opportunities come is probably the most important part. Obviously, money plays a factor. I'm just lucky to be in this situation where, come February 15, there are going to be people interested and we have to figure out where it falls. TNA is not out of the conversation. I told them, 'I want to experience free agency for the first time in my career. I'm very grateful for everything we've been able to do over the six years' and we've continued to do since they picked up my extension. It all comes down to February 15 and who is calling me and saying what."
In February 2024, Fightful Select reported that TNA Wrestling exercised an option year on Alexander's contract. In November, Alexander said he was finishing up his independent dates.
Fightful will provide more details on Alexander's status when they are known.
