KENTA gets his wish and will face Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship, but he shouldn't get too caught up in looking to the future as a vengeful Jeff Cobb is still on the loose.
KENTA defeated David Finlay to win the New Japan Cup USA tournament. As a result of his victory, he has earned the right to challenge Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship.
KENTA recently spoke about this potential match with Sports Illustrated, telling the media outlet he has his desire to become the first-ever Japanese IWGP United States Champion.
“Life is funny. I think no one thought Moxley would do a match with me a few years ago. But if I win this tournament, it could come true. This is the best chance. I’ll shut up those who looked down on me. That is one of my motivations.”
KENTA would challenge Moxley in his post-match victory speech before being blindsided by Jeff Cobb, the man that KENTA cheated to defeat in the semi-finals of this tournament. Cobb would not get to suplex KENTA, but he would briefly hold up the number one contender's briefcase that was awarded to KENTA following his victory.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp recently spoke to Jeff Cobb. You can view the full interview at this link.
