Kevin Sullivan talks Cody Rhodes finishing the story.
Cody Rhodes failed to finish the story at WrestleMania 39, and that decision has been the subject of many debates and podcasts.
Kevin Sullivan has booked his fair share of major main events and knows a lot about the Rhodes family. Speaking on the most recent episode of the Tuesday with the Taskmaster podcast, Sullivan revealed that he was actually in favor of Cody Rhodes losing at WrestleMania 39, feeling that Cody winning so soon after Sami Zayn lost to Roman Reigns at WWE Elimination Chamber would have brought negative blowback on Cody.
Sullivan also says that it is more faithful to the Dusty Rhodes story arc if Cody can continue to face adversity, believing WWE did a great job of having Cody overcome Brock Lesnar.
"I think that if Cody had won, he would have got a backlash. People saying, 'Oh, he just comes in and wins the belt while these guys have been here for years, busting their asses night after night, night after night?' He needs to win the belt, but he needs to do what his father did if he's playing his father's story. His father put the heels over first, dumped all the heat, all the adversity. Then he beat Brock with a broken arm. I think they're doing it perfectly," says Sullivan. "Now, I think if they're going to WrestleMania 40, it's time. You can't give the people what they want [right away]. You've got to make them salivate for it.
"I think that when he does [defeat Roman], then they have all four Samoans sitting right there," Sullivan continued. "There's all kinds of heels. Gunther, they have a stacked group of guys. I think this is the best talent they've had since the Attitude Era. I also think the next step for Roman is Hollywood."
In the past, Kurt Angle has also suggested that the next step for Roman Reigns is Hollywood, believing that if Roman Reigns chooses not to go to Tinseltown, he can break a lot more records in WWE. Read more here.
