KUSHIDA has been advertised for NJPW Music City Madness, and now he has issued a challenge for the show.
In a video posted to New Japan Pro-Wrestling's YouTube channel, the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion read a handwritten letter aloud, and he revealed that he wants to face Alex Shelley at the event.
The message is as follows:
"July 30 in Nashville, there’s someone important I want to face. I thought it would be best to put my feelings in a letter. 'Dear friend, what are you doing now? I signed with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and started a new professional wrestling life. The match between you and I were cancelled a long time ago… Do you remember it? I want to see you in person very soon. We are waiting for you at the Nashville NJPW Strong on July 30. Please show up to the ring.
My dearest professor, my best friend, my all-time best partner. Alex Shelley.
Best regards,
KUSHIDA'
Now is the right time for this to happen. Shelley, I’m waiting," KUSHIDA said.
KUSHIDA and Shelley were tag team partners for several years. They held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship twice, and they briefly reunited in the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in WWE NXT.
As of this writing, NJPW has not announced the match for the show.
The updated lineup for the event is as follows:
NJPW Music City Madness (7/30)
- No DQ: Jon Moxley vs. El Desperado
- Blake Christian vs. Hiromu Takahashi
- Davey Richards vs. Clark Connors
- KUSHIDA in action
