Layla: No Matter How Hard We Would Have Pushed For Women’s Tag Team Titles, That Wasn’t On The Table

Layla reveals whether or not there were any discussions of WWE Divas Tag Team Championships during her era.

Layla and Michelle McCool once considered themselves to be co-champions, turning the WWE Women's Championship belt into a split-in-half giant friendship bracelet. They also walked around with identical Divas Championship belts. During this time in WWE, whether it was The Bella Twins or LayCool, or even the pairing of Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres, most of the WWE Divas had a tag team partner to watch their back.

However, women's WWE Tag Team Championship belts did not resurface until 2019, long after Layla and Michelle McCool had retired.

During a recent appearance on the They Made Their Way to the Ring podcast, Layla was asked whether there had ever been discussions of WWE making new titles so the women could have a tag team division. Layla says there may have been talk about it, but at the time, there wasn't the desire to put much energy behind the division.

"I think there was talk about it. At that time, they didn’t really want to put too much energy into the Divas and the women. It was like, ‘No, we have two titles. We’re just going to go with that.’ It was never anything that would have happened. I know that for a fact. No matter how much we would have pushed, that was something that was not on the table and not possible to attain. It’s a shame because it could have been pretty good and funny. Could you imagine the stables and teams we could have had?"

Layla also spoke on potentially being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside Michelle McCool. Read her comments here.

Layla also says she's keeping the door open to a potential WWE return as part of a future Royal Rumble. Read those comments here.
