Mark Henry Believes Jay Lethal Deserves To Be Mentioned In The Same Breath As The Rock

Mark Henry has high praise for Jay Lethal.

While Kofi Kingston tries to make history on Sunday as the second African-American WWE Champion, Jay Lethal is already making history in Ring of Honor. Lethal is the longest-reigning ROH Champion in history and show no signs of slowing down. And Mark Henry believes it's time for Lethal to get his just due.

"Jay Lethal, you are a friend, but more than that you are a contemporary. You deserve to be spoke of in the same breath as The Rock, a Ron Simmons, a Booker T, a Mark Henry. The list goes on of people that paved the way for African American wrestlers throughout history," said Henry on Busted Open Radio. "You are setting the stage for the two or three generations after you. If you have that in mind, you will go on to do great things, because you’ve already done great things. I’m very proud that you are headlining Madison Square Garden. Because it’s THE Madison Square Garden. It’s the place where everybody goes and they up their game. So, I can’t wait to see what you do to elevate it. It’s going to be a special night."

Henry continued, "Also, on the same page is that, the mirror of you and Kofi both, at the same time. When people say 'there’s no African American influence in wrestling.' I’ll be damned if there’s not an influence. Jay Lethal and Kofi Kingston are at the top of the game right now. And I pray and hope that everybody that’s a wrestling fan supports you guys because supporting you is what’s gonna give another African-American wrestler down the road a chance. You know, don’t complain. Go support. Get out there and buy tickets. Have the audience be a reflection of who the people are that you’re supporting. Putting asses in seats is what makes everybody elite. And I think that our fanbase is doing that."

Lethal is set to defend the ROH World Title this Saturday in a triple threat ladder match against Marty Scurll and Matt Taven.
