Matt Morgan Says He Hated The "Stuttering" Gimmick That Vince McMahon Pitched To Him

Matt Morgan details how the gimmick was pitched to him.

Matt Morgan transitioned from the squared circle to now being the Mayor of Longwood, Florida. Matt Morgan retired from full-time in-ring competition in 2014 but has made appearances for IMPACT Wrestling and competed on the independent scene in the years following 2014. The former two-time TNA World Tag Team Champion also had a five year run as a part of WWE with three years being put into the main roster. During his time in the sports-entertainment company, Matt Morgan was pitched a "stuttering" gimmick by VInce McMahon and while being profiled by 'The Post And Courier', Matt Morgan shared that he was not too fond of the gimmick and added that although he was not keen on it, he was determined to make it work.

“I hated it,” Morgan said emphatically. “I didn’t tell those guys to call me up prematurely. But now I was finally getting an opportunity to work as a heel. There was nothing you could have thrown at me that I couldn’t have handled. As for the stuttering thing, I did say in that office, and not talking back or anything, but you know, Vince sold this to me as he’s always wanted to put this stuttering character on one of these bigger, super impressive looking guys." Morgan continued, "Joe walks into this bar and sees this beautiful woman. Everyone is staring at her; she’s absolutely perfect, and you walk up to her and introduce yourself to her and she has a deep voice,” McMahon said in laying out the character he envisioned.“I get it, there’s an imperfection that nobody expected,” replied Morgan. “And he’s like, I wasn’t going to put this on a bigger guy. I tried to do it to the best of my ability,” says Morgan. “I didn’t talk like other big guys. I talked very quickly, and while some things I said might have gotten lost in translation, I wrestled on a television show. I always thought that separated me because now you’ve got a thinking man’s giant, you’ve got a guy that is well educated and well-rounded and doesn’t have his weaknesses, and I thought that would look like a ‘Mr. Perfect’ of the giants.”
