In the opening round of the 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament, Mercedes Martinez goes one-on-one with former multi-time TNA Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne. In last year's Mae Young Classic, Mercedes made it to the semi-finals until she was defeated by former NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler. With a handful of new names added to the fray, Mercedes was shocked to find out that she was invited back and she revealed that during her interview with the Miami Herald's Jim Varsallone.

“I’m shocked actually to be honest with you. When you have this caliber of young female talents here...I’m so excited not just for me but for everyone who’s involved.” She continued: “This is a good crop of girls that they got this year. You’re looking at Meiko. You’re looking at Io, Nicole Matthews now, and Deonna Purrazzo - all these girls who weren’t here last year, it kind of brings it up a notch. So I’m really excited to be back and to put my talent to the test once again.”
