Michael Cole: Vince McMahon Told Me My WM 27 Match Was The Worst Thing He's Witnessed In 60 Years

Michael Cole had a WrestleMania to remember in 2011 when he stepped in the ring with Jerry Lawler. Lawler had never competed at WrestleMania and Cole turned heel to set up the match. The bout between Lawler and Cole went just under 14 minutes with Steve Austin serving as the special guest referee.

Appearing on WWE After The Bell, Cole recalled being blown up in the middle of the match, but being offered a piece of gum by Steve Austin.

"Jerry throws me headfirst into the front of the steel podium," recalled Cole. "The next thing I know, someone is throwing me into the ring. I think I was knocked out. The cameras are on Jerry and Swagger because they're doing something outside the ring. I'm backing up toward the ropes and I'm like [heavy breathing] 'oh my God.' I feel like I'm going to throw up. I look at Steve and he's laughing his ass off. I go, 'How much longer?' He goes, '35 minutes, son.' I said, '35 MINUTES?!?! I can't even breathe.' He hands me a piece of gum and says 'take this.' 'What the hell am I supposed to do with a piece of gum?' He said, 'chew it, it'll help you feel better.'"

Cole was victorious in the bout after it was declared that Austin was a bias referee. As he was helped to the back by Jack Swagger, Cole ran into Vince McMahon.

"As I get to the back, I'm like 'I think thought that went pretty good.' I look at Vince. Vince looks at me and goes, 'That is the worst thing I've ever witnessed in 60 years.' But the check cleared and I'm still undefeated," he joked.

Cole previously revealed that he got two teeth knocked out the day of WrestleMania 27. The first came courtesy of CM Punk as he was rehearsing his match with Lawler and the second came courtesy of Lawler during the actual match. You can view his full comments by clicking here.
