R-Truth has been one of the most entertaining characters in WWE for the past few years, carrying WWE 24/7 Title segments and elevating his profile alongside Carmella.
On the latest episode of WWE Raw, Truth received heavy praise from the majority of fans for his promo in the ring with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. Even Brock had to chuckle at lines by Truth, before laying him out, of course.
Speaking to Sam Roberts on the Not Sam Wrestling podcast, Truth named his two biggest inspirations.
"Two people, one person I studied and the other one pretty much guided me into it; I watched The Rock and Vince McMahon. Vince is the Godfather of entertainment. He would talk to me. I would do promos and interviews and Vince would be like, 'That's not R-Truth. Who the hell was that? You're entertaining. You can speak, go in the ring, and be around people and be entertaining.' Naturally, I'm an entertaining guy. I don't know if college has a class where you can learn to be entertaining. It's something that naturally people have and it's gotta be brought out. I've always had it. To be in wrestling and use that, it brings it full circle to me," he said.
Oddly, Truth's hero John Cena was not mentioned as an inspiration.
In a 2019 interview, Truth stated that Vince knows how entertaining he can be and how Vince will call him out if he's not entertaining enough. You can view his full comments by clicking here.
