Randy Orton recalls when he knew John Cena was something special.
Orton and Cena's careers have been tied together since their early days training in WWE's developmental, Ohio Valley Wrestling. From that point on, the two would be rivals, having faced off for world championships on several occasions, with their rivalry defining an era of WWE programming.
While speaking to ESPN in a new interview highlighting Cena's most memorable WrestleMania matches, Orton recalled the moment he knew John Cena was special, and that he was going to know him for the rest of his life.
"In WWE developmental, there was this guy named BJ Payne. Jim Cornette wanted BJ to cut a promo on the spot, in front of everybody. BJ, bless his heart, kind of just stood there for a second -- cat had his tongue. And right then and there, Cena stood up and just cut a promo. It was storytelling 101. We were on the edge of our seat like, 'Oh, this guy is really f---ing special.' That was the first time I realized, 'Oh man, I'm going to know this guy for the rest of my life.'"
Orton's WrestleMania 41 plans are currently up in the air following Kevin Owens' neck injury, you can read more about that here.
Cody Rhodes recently stated his belief that both Cena and Orton are bound for the WWE Hall Of Fame once the two call it a career. You can read more about that here.
