An update on Davey Boy Smith Jr's status with NJPW.
According to Voices of Wrestling, Davey Boy Smith Jr. is no longer with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Smith Jr. last wrestled for NJPW on Mar. 24 as part of the New Japan Cup tour. He signed a two-year deal with MLW in January 2019 that still allowed him to work dates for NJPW.
Smith Jr. had been outspoken about his time in NJPW, feeling that he wasn't being showcased to his full abilities while in the promotion. Following his Bloodsport bout against Killer Kross, Davey Boy took to social media to thank GCW for letting him wrestle the style he wanted to wrestle. He previously took a shot at NJPW when thanking Real Japan Pro Wrestling for booking him on their Dynamite Kid memorial show.
Fightful has confirmed the news, with it being said that Davey Boy Smith Jr. "basically quit" and didn't feel like the company was doing anything for his career. After being stagnant, Davey Boy felt like it was time to move on.
It was a great game and memorial tonight for Dynamite Kid for Real Japan Pro Wrestling. Nice to be involved in an athletic, competitive, physical contest for once in Japan! I won with a Tombstone Piledriver followed by Diving Headbutt! Dynamite Kid Style! -------------- pic.twitter.com/18WBDayAll

Thanks to @GCWrestling_ for having me on Bloodsport tonight. I’m glad I got to show the fans what I think is my true style -- and I’m not going to bite my tongue on this one, a much better showing than the absolute crap I’ve been put in by overseas companies lately ---------- pic.twitter.com/XNFxT2gv59
