WWE has sold a lot of Rusev merchandise.
Last week on Smackdown, Rusev pinned WWE United States Champion Randy Orton in a tag team match in which he was a late substitute. After the match, Rusev said he wanted to be added to the United States Championship match at Wrestlemania 34 and he was granted that wish by WWE. The match was changed into a fatal four-way.
Wrestling Observer has reported Rusev was added to the match because WWE was happy with the amount of Rusev merchandise that has been sold including the Rusev Day t-shirts and calender. It was also reported Rusev was originally set for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
Rusev has already won the WWE United States Championship twice since moving to the main roster from NXT. He defeated Sheamus for the title in 2014 and then earned his second reign by defeating Kalisto in 2016.
Fightful Wrestling will have live coverage and a recapping podcast for Wrestlemania 34.
