Ricky Steamboat: AEW Asked Me To 'Come Aboard', But I Didn't Want To Be On The Road

Ricky Steamboat says he turned down an offer to join AEW.

WWE Hall of Famer Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat appeared on the special "House of the Dragon" episode of AEW Dynamite on August 17, 2022; there, he was the guest timekeeper. Tony Khan later said that he would love to have Steamboat back in AEW.

During a virtual signing with Captain's Corner, Steamboat was asked whether he would want to work in AEW as a manager. He responded by noting that the company asked him to join the team, but he wasn't interested in being on the road.

“Believe it or not, I was already asked to come aboard in a capacity of [a road agent]. Not anymore [when asked if he’s no longer interested in that kind of role]. No reflection on them, great company and everything, and don’t get me wrong, the pay would have been great. But I’m at a point in time in my life where I’m trying to get off the road. [I’ve had] 40-something years of being on the road," Steamboat said.

Steamboat didn't join AEW, but he later worked with two of the company's top stars. The WWE Hall of Famer teamed up with FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) in his return to the ring; the trio defeated Brock Anderson, Jay Lethal, and Nick Aldis at BTW Return of the Dragon on November 27, 2022.
