Ricochet comments on a conversation he had with his father about watching him compete.
Wins and losses in wrestling may be part of the industry, with influence being attached to those who do win a large majority of matches. With that comes championship victories, and one wrestler who knows about the impact wins and losses can have is Ricochet, a former United States and Intercontinental champion in WWE.
While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Ricochet was asked about wanting to win titles, and the current AEW name recalled a conversation with his father who was planning to watch him compete.
"It’s a legacy thing. Holding championships is funny because in wrestling they say, ‘championships don’t matter,’ but they do. They really do. Perception is reality. If the perception is that you’re a champion, then that’s the reality. If the perception is that you lose all the time, that’s reality. My dad was calling me one time. ‘We excited to watch you tonight. We have people over. We know you’re going to lose, but we’re all excited.’ Perception is reality. Obviously, championship gold is in mind."
Ricochet is now a member of the AEW roster, and competed on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite in tag team action where he and Powerhouse Hobbs teamed up to take on The Don Callis Family. You can read more about that here.
Elsewhere in the same interview, Ricochet stated he never felt like he toned down his style in WWE. You can read more about that here.
