Sami Zayn is honored by comparisons to someone he shares stylistic matchups with.
Over the years there have been many comparisons between Sami Zayn and Ring Of Honor luchador El Generico, as they share movesets and history with Kevin Owens. However, Generico left the business to take care of orphans several years ago, while Sami Zayn has gone onto much success in WWE and is the current Intercontinental Champion.
In a new video posted on WWE's Vault channel, Sami Zayn was asked to pick a match for his birthday. Zayn noted that he would be going deep into WWE's library for a match that featured El Generico, referencing the similarities between he and the luchador.
"Hey, this is Sami Zayn, WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn, and for my birthday, they are letting me pick a match deep in the WWE vault. So I went deep, deep, deep into our video library for this one. It is a match featuring a competitor that I've studied extensively in my career. I've been honored to have been compared to him many, many times over the years. There are definitely some stylistic similarities. A man called El Generico, and this is El Generico versus Samuray Del Sol."
Zayn most recently defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship at Money In The Bank against Bron Breakker.
