Sami Zayn: Kota Ibushi Is A Gift To Wrestling, I Need To Wrestle Him Again Before My Career Is Over

Sami Zayn says he needs to wrestle Kota Ibushi again.

These days, Zayn is one of the top stars in WWE; he holds the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship with Kevin Owens. But years ago, as El Generico, he was a renowned competitor on the independent scene, and he wrestled all over the world. Among many other memorable matches, Zayn (as Generico) faced Ibushi at DDT Special 2012 in October. The two stars have not wrestled each other since this bout.

In a tweet, Zayn responded to a clip of Ibushi shooting himself with fireworks. He wrote that Ibushi is a "lunatic and a gift to pro wrestling." Zayn then stated that he needs to wrestle Ibushi before his career is over.

Ibushi previously named Zayn as one of the WWE stars he'd like to face. Check out his comments here.

The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion entered free agency after his NJPW contract expired at the end of January 2023. He had been sidelined with a shoulder injury since October 2021, but he returned to the ring during The Collective 2023; there, Ibushi competed at both Josh Barnett's Bloodsport 9 and Joey Janela's Spring Break 7.

Ibushi recently stated that he hopes to be in contact with AEW CEO Tony Khan soon. More information is available here.
