Sheamus joined the WWE main roster in 2009. Within months of his arrival, he was WWE Champion and worked with names like John Cena, Randy Orton, and Triple H. Now, over 15 years later, Sheamus is an established veteran who acts as the gatekeeper to young stars on the roster such as Pete Dunne, Gunther, and more.

During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Sheamus explained why he enjoys being in the position. He's in now and discussed feeling undermined early in his WWE career.

"I have a point to prove. For the first part of my career, I thought I was undermined a lot and people didn’t really...for example, if I was in a match with someone and I brought the best out of them, people were talking about, ‘This guy carried Sheamys to a great match’ or it would ‘this guy is great.’ It only took ten years for people to realize, ‘there’s a common denominator. Sheamus is in all of them.’ I love the fact that I’m in a gatekeeper role with a lot of new talent coming in and help getting their confidence up and getting to show the world who they are. There are a lot of talent that wouldn’t do that, but I love it. I love them stepping up to me."

Sheamus went on to give examples of working with Gunther at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022 and his recent programs with Ludwig Kaiser and Bron Breakker. He also spotlighted Bronson Reed for his athleticism and said that he's happy to see all of them emerge as brighter stars after working with him.

"Everyone knows about Gunther and what we did at Clash at the Castle," he continued. "Fans who weren’t NXT fans, that put him on the map. We’ve had barnburners since then. That was probably one of the best moments of my career, the standing ovation after. You talk about winning titles, 18 seconds at Mania, to me, that was one of the most memorable moments of my entire life, getting a standing ovation in Cardiff, Wales. Going in there with Priest. The stuff with Ludwig. People are seeing what an aggressive bastard he is and how good he is. Breakker as well. Bronson Reed. All these lads, going in there and getting the best out of them. It’s great to see. I’m proud of all of them. I see them doing really well. I’m so happy for them. There’s a little pride for me seeing how well they are doing. Especially Bronson. We were in there and he was too nice, now he’s in there as a killer. We had those two matches where we beat the bollocks out of each other and I was fighting underneath the whole time. He is a monster. He may not be seven foot tall, but the lad is close to 400 pounds and he’s so athletic."

Sheamus also recently discussed the opportunity he was afforded to be Edge's last opponent in WWE. Read his comments here.
