Sonya Deville Pitched To Be GM Again While Injured In 2023

After losing a loser leaves WWE match to Mandy Rose at WWE SummerSlam 2020, Sonya Deville was off television for months before returning in the new year.

When she returned to TV in January 2021, Deville found herself as an assistant to General Manager Adam Pearce.

Deville would wrestle once in 2021 before returning to the ring in a full-time capacity in 2022. When she suffered a torn ACL in August 2023 after winning the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles with Chelsea Green, Deville pitched to be a GM once again.

"I pitched it. I did pitch it. Hunter was like, 'No.' He kind of said it's not a role for active wrestlers. Let it be a role for people who are not actively on the card. I kind of wanted to go back there. It's easy heat. You're in a position of power, you're not supposed to be in a position of power because you're a wrestler, but you are and you can use it to abuse the roster. I loved it. I wanted to go back and do it. I think it was a hit when I was in it. I wanted to see that again," Deville told Ariel Helwani on the Ariel Helwani Show.

Deville eventually returned to the ring in May 2024, aligning with Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark.

Elsewhere during the interview, Deville looked back on her bout with Mandy Rose at SummerSlam 2020. You can find her full comments here.
