Major Title Changes Hands At MLW Fightland

One of MLW's top titles changed hands in the main event of Fightland.

MLW taped its Fightland event on October 2 from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The show aired this evening on VICE TV as a one-hour special. The main attraction on the card was a title versus title match between Jacob Fatu (MLW World Heavyweight Champion) and Alex Hammerstone (National Openweight Champion).

The two undefeated champions have been on a collision course for nearly two years, but their showdown has been continually sidestepped by Fatu and CONTRA who have hidden behind contractual provisions. All barriers were broken, however, when Hammerstone won the Battle Riot just two months ago, guaranteeing him a title shot.

Tonight, in the main event of Fightland, Alex Hammerstone defeated Jacob Fatu to become the new MLW World Heavyweight Champion. This ends Fatu's reign with the belt at 819 days. He originally won the title on July 6, 2019, at Kings of Colosseum.

Hammerstone won his other belt, the National Openweight Championship, one month prior to Fatu, on June 1, 2019.
