TKO President Mark Shapiro Told Netflix That WWE Is 'Up Your Alley. It's Scripted Entertainment'

In January, WWE and Netflix announced a new deal that would see WWE Raw move to Netflix beginning in January 2025.

It will mark the first time WWE Raw has been off linear cable since the show premiered in January 1993.

Speaking at Leaders Week London (via Sports Business Journal), TKO President Mark Shapiro explained how the deal came together.

"It’s up your alley," he said when asked how TKO pitched WWE to Netflix. "Why don't you dip your toe in? It's not really live sports. It's scripted entertainment. It's fictional. ... It's very serial in nature. It's every single week. It's shown on Peacock to not just be a huge driver for acquisition but incredible on the retention side of things, because it's every single week, and therefore churn is reduced, at least given the WWE fans in universe.”

WWE and Netflix are already set to introduce more programming to the platform as Nick Khan announced a WWE behind the scenes series that will air on Netflix.

Shapiro previously said that WWE and Netflix would be working on "ancillary programming" similar to "Formula 1: Drive to Survive."
