Tony D'Angelo and Carmelo Hayes will clash in a high-stakes match at NXT Roadblock.
In recent weeks, Carmelo Hayes has been feuding with NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov. Hayes accused Dragunov of attacking Trick Williams when he was the perpetrator all along. Carmelo took Williams out after he lost to Dragunov at NXT Vengeance Day, and he has had his sights set on Dragunov ever since. Dragunov offered to give Hayes a title shot if they met face-to-face on NXT.
The confrontation closed the show on the February 27 episode of NXT, as they came to the ring to sign the contract for a title match. Tony D'Angelo interrupted and told Dragunov that he wanted to earn a shot at the gold, whereas Hayes was demanding one. Dragunov was impressed, and with General Manager Ava's approval, he allowed D'Angelo the opportunity to earn a title shot by facing Carmelo Hayes at NXT Roadblock on March 5.

Tensions rose, and Hayes slammed D'Angelo through a table. He then raised the title, as D'Angelo had accidentally knocked Dragunov down.
