Tony Nese has been released by WWE.
Mike Johnson at PWInsider first reported the news of Nese's release. Nese went on social media to confirm the news.
Nese signed with WWE in 2016, taking part in the Cruiserweight Classic. He defeated Anthony Bennett in the first round, but lost to Brian Kendrick in the second round. Nese became one of the pillars of the cruiserweight division and a featured performer on 205 Live.
He won the Cruiserweight Championship #1 Contender Tournament in 2019 and went on to capture the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 35 by defeating Buddy Murphy.
He last wrestled on the June 18 episode of 205 Live, losing to Ikemen Jiro. He had been regularly teaming with Ariya Daivari on 205 Live. Daivari was also released by WWE on June 25.
Welp.

Thank you everyone! I don't care about how unwatched and underappreciated 205 was. I busted my ass every single time I stepped foot in the ring doing whatever was asked of me with no questions asked. I can't wait to be that type of employee for someone else.
