Tony Schiavone says times change.
Hulk Hogan was the face of wrestling throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s. The wrestling business has changed a lot since then, and new stars have risen to the top of the business. Given the evolution of the business, classic wrestling often stands in stark contrast to today's product.
Speaking on What Happened When with Tony Schiavone, co-host Conrad Thompson noted that a lot of wrestling didn’t age well, and he said that he didn’t think that Hogan being the champion today would work, at least with the same act, because society had changed. Schiavone, who worked with Hogan for years in WCW, agreed.
“Well, yeah. ‘80s music wouldn’t work today. Hulk was a champion, of course, during what I think, in my life, when I remember great times, to me, the ‘80s were the greatest decade of all time, and one of the things you remember during the ‘80s is Hulkamania. So yeah, Hulk wouldn’t be a world champion today," Schiavone said.
Hogan previously appeared at the WWE Raw on Netflix premiere, and he was loudly booed.
