WWE 2K25 developer Bryan Williams discusses his desire to add thumbtacks into modern WWE games and how he feels about AEW: Fight Forever having them before the WWE 2K franchise could.
Jesse of The Pro Wrestling Shoot recently interviewed WWE 2K25 developer Bryan Williams about the potential of adding additional cuts and scars to wrestlers during matches instead of just the blood pouring down from the head. He was also asked how thumbtacks could be added to the games as weapons.
Williams revealed that he believes both things coincide and that the addition of thumbtacks has been a long-term goal of theirs. Also, despite working on the development of AEW: Fight Forever, he admits that it bothers him that the game was able to figure out how to make those things work while the WWE 2K franchise has yet to do so.
"The thumbtacks, we've been talking about that for a while now, and I think once we crack that nut, that's the perfect opportunity to then go into, as you, as you pointed out, getting scarring, bleeding on the back, the chest, the arms, even. I think introducing that as a new weapon. Obviously, just like peanut butter and jelly, it coincides with bleeding on the bodies, as opposed to just the face. So, it is something that we are hoping to eventually get to sooner rather than later. So, yeah, I would just say, we hear you, and it's something that we want to do as well, especially just having thumbtacks in the AEW game. I know I worked on it, but it, you know, it sticks in my craw that the AEW game has one over on us when it comes to the thumbtacks. I don't like that. We're going to make it right."
Thumbtacks were available to use in the 2009 video game WWE Legends of WrestleMania, but they were exclusive to the Hell in a Cell match.
Elsewhere in the interview, Williams revealed another feature that he wanted to add to the games this year, but the team could not make it work. Learn more here.
On the plus side, for those who like violence, there is now the capability of blood in women's matches. Learn more here.
