WWF Raw On SNES/SEGA Producer Explains How Doink The Clown Led To Buckets Being An In-Game Weapon

Former Acclaim producer Mark Flitman discusses buckets being a weapon in WWF Raw on the Super Nintendo and SEGA consoles.

WWF Raw on the Super Nintendo and the SEGA Genesis/SEGA 32X features a bucket as a weapon for the first time ever. This was an addition to the steel chair that was a weapon in the game's prequel WWF Royal Rumble from 1993.

Mark Flitman was recently interviewed by Jim Valley of F4WOnline (subscription required) and remarked that the bucket being a weapon was likely a nod to Doink The Clown using the bucket on television.

"Oh, the bucket. I think I probably saw it on some of the matches. I think that Doink The Clown had a bucket, and he'd throw fake confetti at people, and then he'd hit people over the head with it. So I said, 'Okay, that's a good object.' You know, it's tough. You've got a chair. You've got the bell. What else are you going to use? You don't want to use something that is gonna really talk little kids into getting into trouble. So, the bucket seemed like a good choice."

Elsewhere in the interview, Flitman talked about the addition of Kwang in the SEGA 32X version. Read more here.
