On November 10, AEW revealed the first big news regarding AEW Games, showing early footage of the console game and announcing Yuke's the developer.
Yuke's famously developed the WWE SmackDown series for PlayStation and the WWE WrestleMania and Day of Reckoning series for Gamecube. AEW also announced the addition of Hideyuki Iwashita (aka Geta), who helped develop the No Mercy series and Def Jam series.
Speaking to Video Game Chronicles, Yuke’s senior vice president and producer Hiromi Furuta couldn't reveal much more regarding the upcoming AEW game, but did discuss the "rivalry" with WWE games.
“My goal is simply to create high-quality pro-wrestling games that are loved by the community,” she said. “I do not think of it as being a rivalry with WWE, but rather as us creating a new product with AEW. I still love the WWE and respect its talent. Mr. Iwashita was one of the members essential to assembling the greatest pro-wrestling game team that Kenny Omega had envisioned. After AKI stopped making WWE wrestling games, part of their former team joined Yuke’s and worked on our games with us. We thus think of [Iwashita] as a reliable member for creating wrestling games.”
It is unknown when the AEW console game will be released.
