Zack Sabre Jr. respects Orange Cassidy.
At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, NJPW star Zack Sabre Jr. scored a buzzworthy win when he made Orange Cassidy tap out.
At the AEW x NJPW post-show media scrum, Zack Sabre Jr. discussed defeating Orange Cassidy.
"Going into this match, Orange Cassidy felt I was disrespecting him. I don’t think there is a wrestler in the world that respects Orange Cassidy more than me. Anyone that knows my personality or taste in music and film probably thinks that I’m a pretentious wanker, but I actually knew that Orange Cassidy was cool way before all of you. Ten years ago, we were in the Northeast Indies. I was on before Orange Cassidy and I would watching the match losing my mind. We both wanted this match for a long time. Self-contained, to beat Orange Cassidy is massive for me. If there is anyone disregarding how talented Orange Cassidy is at pro wrestling, they’re a fucking idiot," Sabre Jr. said.
Sabre Jr. was also asked about the unique challenge of wrestling Cassidy. He called Cassidy one of the most unique wrestlers in the business but noted that there was no challenge. Sabre Jr. went on to say that he did not think that story had ended.
To be honest, there was no challenge. Orange Cassidy is one of the most unique pro wrestlers in wrestling. Whether it’s stubbornness, my entire motivation in wrestling was to try and wrestle as true to myself in a way of what I want to be as a pro wrestler. That match was only going to be the match we were going to wrestle. I didn’t feel any sort of pressure to bend to any expectations. I’m happy with the match. It’s what it should have been. I don’t think that story has ended. Everyone should know how skilled Orange Cassidy is. He wasn’t just keeping up with me, he was out-doing me at multiple occasions. Luckily, I’m the best technical wrestler in the world, so I got him in the end. It was dicey a couple of times," Sabre Jr. said.
