Dana White Says Petr Yan Will Face Jose Aldo For The Vacant Bantamweight Title

Henry Cejudo has officially been stripped of the UFC Bantamweight Title, making the championship vacant for the second time in as many years.

UFC President Dana White, during an appearance on ESPN, revealed that Petr Yan and former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo will battle for the vacant gold.

“I’ll break this right here and right now – and my people are probably going to kill me for this one,” White said (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “(Henry) Cejudo has retired, so we’re talking right now about Petr Yan vs. Jose Aldo for the vacant title. We don’t have a date or a place set for that, but that’s the fight we’re looking at right now.”

The bout will most likely take place on the much hyped “Fight Island,” since both Aldo and Yan aren’t allowed to travel to the United States at this time due to the coronavirus pandemic. This bout will give Yan his first chance to acquire UFC gold, while Aldo will have the opportunity to become a two division UFC champion. Yan is currently ranked #3 in the UFC Bantamweight Division, while Aldo, who is winless at bantamweight, is ranked #6 in the weight class.
