Thiago Santos kicked off the UFC 227 pay-per-view by pulling out a unanimous decision win over Kevin Holland.
Despite a solid run as a middleweight it the UFC, a future move Santos may be making is up a weight class to light heavyweight.
“We’ve been thinking about moving up to light heavyweight,” Santos said after the event. “But there are some guys at middleweight I want to fight. And some of these guys will be fighting on Nov. 3 and I’d like the opportunity to be there fighting one of them.”
If Santos does make the move up a weight class, it would put the Brazilian in a division currently ruled by Daniel Cormier. Santos holds a 10-5-0 record in the UFC (18-6-0 overall) and all of those bouts have taken place at middleweight.
The potential future light heavyweight wants to compete at UFC 230, but Santos doesn’t care who the opponent is.
“Anybody,” Santos said.
UFC 230 already has a total of four middleweight division bouts taking place on the card, with Ronaldo Souza facing former two division WSOF champion David Branch, former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold facing another former UFC Middleweight Champion in Chris Weidman, Yoel Romero faces Paulo Costa and Derek Brunson takes on Israel Adesanya.
