A light heavyweight division attraction will be added to the first UFC pay-per-view of 2017, UFC 208. #3 Glover Teixeira taking on the unranked Jared Cannonier.
Teixeira (25-5-0) is coming off of the fastest loss of his career, as he was knocked out in just thirteen seconds by Anthony Johnson at UFC 202. Teixeira has previously fought for the UFC Light Heavyweight title, losing to then champion Jon Jones by unanimous decision at UFC 172. Teixeira has won three of his last four fights under the UFC banner, most notably defeating former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans at UFC On Fox 19.
Cannonier (9-1-0) has won two of three fights thus far under in the UFC, defeating Ion Cutelaba and Cyril Asker, while suffering a defeat to Shawn Jordan. Cannonier is a former Alaska Fighting Championships Light Heavyweight Champion, as he defeated Tony Lopez by split decision to win the belt in 2014. Cannonier has fought ten times as a professional MMA fighter, eight of those fights have ended within the opening round of the fight.
UFC 208 takes place on Saturday, February 11 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with no main event announced at this time.
