Apollo Crews discusses William Regal's potential return to WWE.
Regal has been WWE's Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting, and he played a vital part in building NXT into what it became during the Triple H era. But when Triple H stepped way due to health issues in the fall of 2021, the company made sweeping changes to NXT. Regal was released by WWE on January 5, 2022, and he went on to sign with AEW.
He debuted for the company at AEW Revolution in March and worked there for the next several months before he asked Tony Khan not to renew his contract option so he could return to WWE. Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp and Mike Johnson of PWInsider previously reported that Regal has come to terms with WWE, and he is set to start with the company in the first week of January 2023.
Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Crews commented on the rumors about Regal's return to WWE by emphasizing that anyone would benefit from working with the veteran, given his experience and his knowledge of the business. He noted that if Regal does come back to WWE, it would be "fantastic" for everyone.
"I feel like there’s a lot of young kids – not just young kids, but anybody can benefit from somebody with credentials like William Regal. If it’s something that’s happening, it’s gonna be fantastic for a lot of the younger kids, all of us, to get the knowledge and experience of someone who’s so well traveled, so well-versed. He’s been around for as long as I’ve been watching wrestling, really. I’m all for it," Crews said.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion went on to emphasize that the performers in the locker room should make the most of the opportunity to learn from someone like Regal if they get the chance to do so. He stated that it doesn't get better than that.
"I think that that’s one of those things where you’ve got to sit back and look and understand how grateful you should be to have somebody like that being able to teach you on a regular basis. It doesn’t get better than that, right?" Crews said.
