Gable Steveson plans to be at WrestleMania.
Steveson signed with WWE in September 2021 and was drafted to WWE Raw in the 2021 WWE Draft. On Saturday, he finished up his amateur wrestling career with his second straight NCAA Heavyweight National Championship.
Next stop? WrestleMania.
“I plan on going to WrestleMania,” Steveson told Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. “That’s the first time WWE fans will see me and what I’m about. I’m going to put my heart out there.”
Steveson received messages from Paul Heyman, Triple H, and Brock Lesnar before his match.
“Paul Heyman is always like the first one to text, and that means a lot. He always reaches out and makes sure I’m good. Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque checks up on me, and so does Brock Lesnar. They’ve shown me a lot of love and respect," he said.
Following his victory over Cohlton Schultz, Steveson left his shoes on the mat, signifying his amateur wrestling days were over.
“It was real special for me to go out there, have that last match, and leave my shoes on the mat,” says Steveson, who shared that his mother grabbed the shoes before anyone could snatch them up. “Leaving my shoes on the mat, that’s the way I want my career to be remembered. I gave my heart to wrestling. But even now, with those shoes off, I’ll keep wrestling. It’s what I grew up doing. Even if I step away from the competition, I’ll never step away from the practice.
“With wrestling comes so much sacrifice and dedication, and I’ve met so many people along the way that have impacted my life. It’s amazing to see how this journey has played out, and it’s cool to think about how this next chapter will unfold."
Steveson's involvement at WrestleMania is currently unknown.
