Ilja Dragunov is set to defend the gold at NXT Deadline.
In recent weeks, Baron Corbin has targeted NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov. He attacked the champion after he beat Carmelo Hayes to retain the gold on the October 31 episode of NXT.
In the main event of the November 14 episode of WWE NXT, a distraction from Dominik Mysterio helped Corbin defeat Wes Lee. When he attacked Lee after the bell, Dragunov came out and took the fight to him. Corbin then dropped Dragunov with the End of Days.

As Corbin made it way to the back, Dragunov grabbed a microphone and said he had made a grave mistake, so he would have to live with the consequences. Dragunov told Corbin he would get a shot at the NXT Championship, and he said he would see him at NXT Deadline on December 9.

WWE later confirmed the match for NXT Deadline.
