Joe Hendry goes on to WWE NXT No Mercy.
Despite the best efforts of WWE NXT Champion Ethan Page, Joe Hendry defeated Pete Dunne and Wes Lee to earn the right to challenge for the WWE NXT Title at NXT No Mercy on September 1. This marks the first time a TNA-contracted competitor will challenge for a WWE Championship in the main event of a WWE PLE.
Ethan Page tried very hard not to face Joe Hendry. Page pulled out the referee when Hendry had a decisive victory. Then, after Hendry slammed Lee onto the announce table and hit another Standing Ovation on Pete Dunne, Page actively stopped another referee from entering the ring. During this distraction, Dunne was able to drop Hendry with a Bitter End, but Trick Williams ran into the ring and hit a Trick Shot knee on Dunne out of nowhere, ensuring that Hendry would be going to Denver.
