John Cena: After I'm Retired, I Want To Have Illusions Of 'What Would A Match Be Like With This Person?'

John Cena still refuses to throw out any ideas for dream opponents along the road of his WWE farewell tour in 2025, but that doesn't mean he is averse to having illusions of fantasy matches.

John Cena is retiring in 2025 and has stated multiple times that once it's over, he will never step inside the ring again for any reason and will strictly be a fan of WWE once again. John Cena has previously stated that he is in no position to handpick any opponents during his upcoming farewell tour. Still, he is opening up about keeping a close eye on WWE after he's retired and fantasizing about dream matches after it's all said and done.

Speaking with Extra in Los Angeles on the red carpet premiere of his new movie, Jackpot!, John Cena was again asked to name dream opponents and refused. However, he said that he enjoys the continuous nature of WWE programming and looks forward to having illusions of fantasy matches after he retires.

"Oh, I think the great thing about WWE is the story never ends, and it always seems to grow in reach and grow in popularity. So even after I'm retired, I would want to have illusions and, like, oh, 'What would a match be like with this person or this person?' I never try to marry myself to those concepts, because that stuff is beyond my control. I just kind of take the opponents that I'm given and try to tell the best story I can."

John Cena has confirmed that his retirement tour will span 36 dates in 2025, and some of those dates will be International. Learn more here.
