John Cena speaks on the benefits of having a concrete timeframe for his WWE retirement.
John Cena will retire from WWE in 2025, reserving the entire calendar year for his WWE family. After 23 years on WWE television, Cena has been adamant that he will not take another bump or participate in any portion of the WWE performance outside of being a devoted fan.
Cena said he feels great about his retirement on CBS Mornings. As he retires, he likes having a set farewell date because he knows that the WWE universe will call him out on his BS if he tries to backtrack and wrestle again.
"I feel great. My last performance in the WWE ring will be in December 2025, period, and I like saying that because if I lie to my audience, they're gonna call me on my BS."
John Cena is unsure what's next for him once he officially hangs up the Jorts. He said he's looking to take things day by day and, in typical fashion of the man who has long preached the values of hustle, loyalty, and respect, he simply wants the opportunity to earn every sunset.
"I'll know what's next when it comes up, but I know if I wake up every day and say, 'How can I earn the sunset?' I'm going to do something useful, and that's going to lead to something to be done."
John Cena isn't trying to handpick any opponents on this retirement tour, but that hasn't stopped challenges from coming in. New WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker has stated that he wants John Cena to try and win the WWE Intercontinental Championship from him.
John Cena's retirement tour will include appearing on the first WWE Monday Night Raw on Netflix. Learn more about the guaranteed stops on the tour here.
