Kenny Omega took control of Bullet Club in 2016 when AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson decided to leave NJPW for WWE. Prior to Omega ascending to the leadership position, he was the junior ace for Bullet Club.
Styles, Gallows, and Anderson (known in WWE as The OC) reportedly didn't inform NJPW officials of their decision to leave until the morning of Wrestle Kingdom 10. Appearing on Wrestlers Ordering Room Service, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks recalled The OC leaving NJPW and Bullet Club.
"We had known for a while that AJ, Karl Anderson, and Gallows were all leaving," recalled Matt Jackson. "We thought they were going to TNA Wrestling. I get off the bus and I go to Karl and go, 'Hey, are you guys heading to Dixieland?' He goes, 'Actually, no, everything just changed. We're going with AJ and going to WWE.' They haven't told Gedo yet. Karl calls over Gedo, looks ready to cry, and goes, 'I know I've been here for eight years. I gotta go to WWE, man. I'm leaving.' [Gallows] is coming with me. He goes over this 20-minute speech about how sorry they are and they feel like they're blindsiding him. They're walking away, [ AJ enters the room], and Gallows says, 'Oh my god, AJ is leaving too.' Gedo goes, 'WHAT!' Gedo shakes their hands and goes, 'Kenny, come here.'"
Omega continued the story, saying, "He goes, 'Remember the match with Kushida? Maybe no strong over, just quick. Maybe we do something day after.' I'm like, 'Damn right we're doing something.'"
The day after Wrestle Kingdom 10 at New Year Dash 2016, Omega and the Bucks attacked Styles, officially kicking him out of the group in favor of Omega. According to Omega, the decision to hit the Styles Clash on AJ was made on the fly as they wanted to do something to show Bullet Club was under new ownership.
Elsewhere during the chat, Omega and the Bucks revealed Kenny was "pissed off" when initially informed he would be joining Bullet Club. You can read his full comments by clicking here.
