Matt Taven explains why friendship in The Kingdom is so deeply rooted.
The Kingdom has seen two different forms and that first form featured current WWE stars Adam Cole, Mike Kanellis, Maria Kanellis, Matt Hardy and one-third of the current ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Matt Taven. Taven later assumed the role as leader of the group and now leads Vinny Marseglia and TK O'Ryan as they attempt to take over Ring Of Honor.
Taven explained during an interview with 'Comicbook.com' that the longevity of The Kingdom relates back to members of the group being friends outside of the ring. He said that Vinny and TK being added to the mix was a "no-brainer" because they reminded him of Adam Cole and Mike Kanellis in terms of friendship.
"I think it's the realism of it that makes it so lasting," Taven said. "This is a real bond of guys that stays till this day. I still keep in touch with Adam, and Mike, and when it was time to kinda to reinvent things, it was a no-brainer to add Vinny and TK to the mix. Because they were guys that were in the same vein as Adam and Mike. Just guys that were real-life friends that traveled together, that talked about wrestling all the time, and that wanted each other to succeed, and were there to carry each other and help each other when needed. So, it's that genuine friendship bond, and also trust that we have with one another, that's made The Kingdom last five years, which is nuts," he continued. "It just blew my mind that you said that."
Matt Taven will get his one-on-one opportunity at the ROH World Championship in just a few weeks at Ring Of Honor's 17th Anniversary Show where he'll clash with the champion Jay Lethal.
