Mia Yim: Michin Is A Nickname For Now, It's Better Than Reckoning

Mia Yim comments on her name change, or the lack thereof.

Yim rose to prominence with her run in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, and she signed with WWE in 2018. She worked for the company for the next few years, and she had a brief run on the main roster as Reckoning in Retribution, before she was released in 2021. Yim then returned to IMPACT and later went back to WWE; she re-debuted on the November 7 episode of WWE RAW in 2022. WWE briefly changed her name to Michin, but the shift was been inconsistent, as she has been referred to as both Yim and Michin.

Speaking on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Yim was asked whether Michin is a soft launch for a new name or a nickname. She responded by noting that she didn't know. When Satin wondered whether Michin was initially intended to be a name change, she stated that she thought it was meant to function as a nickname.

“That’s a great question because I don’t know [laughs.] I think it was initially a nickname. The whole time, I was told it was a nickname. The biggest thing that I want everyone to know is I’m okay with this name. Everything new, not everyone’s gonna like it. I get it, but I’m okay with this name. It’s better than Reckoning, so I’m not gonna complain about this name [laughs]. It’s a nickname now, and who knows, maybe in the future, it could transition to being my name. If it is, I’m okay with that too," Yim said.

The WWE Raw star continued by emphasizing that she is okay with the Michin name, however it may be used. She noted that it might not work right now because she has been Mia Yim for such a long time, but she views the change as a challenge. Yim stated that she wants to get fans to love Michin as much as they loved her before.

"I just want everyone to know, you don’t have to see the building on fire. It’s okay. It’s also a challenge for me to make it work. It might not work now because for 12 years, I’ve been Mia Yim, so of course something different, something new, people [aren’t] gonna like it]. ‘Why are you changing something that’s not broken? It’s like okay, but this may be just a challenge. Let me see if I can get you to love Michin just as much as you love Mia Yim, if that were the case. All in all, I think it’s a nickname for now," Yim said.
