The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) have re-signed with IMPACT Wrestling.
The news was first broke via Sports Illustrated, who spoke to Shelley and Sabin for a short interview. Shelley and Sabin are coming off a run with the IMPACT World Tag Team Championships, a run that ended on the March 2 episode of IMPACT on AXS TV.
Shelley and Sabin have in and out of IMPACT Wrestling/TNA for their entire careers. The two first formed the Motor City Machine Guns in 2006, but the team would end up becoming very popular after joining TNA in 2007. Together, Sabin and Shelley have won the IMPACT/TNA World Tag Team Championships on three separate occasions.
The Motor City Machine Guns are also currently the GCW World Tag Team Champions and the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions. Furthermore, Shelley is also currently the Pro Wrestling REVOLVER Remix Champion and the Prestige Wrestling World Champion.
In the interview with Sports Illustrated, Shelley commented on signing his first wrestling contract in nearly five years.
"This is the first full-time pro wrestling contract I’ve signed in almost five years,” says Shelley. “I pursued physical medicine, and earning that degree was something I needed to prove to myself. Once I had that security and that confidence, I wanted to be back in Impact. It has the most familial bond. There are people here that have seen me grow up from a teenager to a grown-ass man. That’s special to me. Some of the best in the world are right here. There aren’t better wrestlers on the planet than ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey, Jonathan Gresham, Kushida and Chris Sabin. I could go on and on—Frankie Kazarian, Trey Miguel, Black Taurus. These guys are phenomenal.”
Sabin also commented on the team signing deals with IMPACT Wrestling, noting that he's very happy to be with the promotion.
"Impact is like family to us. [Impact president] Scott D’Amore was my trainer. It’s home. We’ve been around the world, honing our skills, for 20 years We bring a very unique set of skills to wrestling, and it’s pretty special that we can keep doing it here in Impact, and it’s pretty cool that people ask us for advice the way we used to ask our heroes. That’s an honor.”
Shelley and Sabin will both be in action on Friday, March 24 at IMPACT's Sacrifice event. The duo are set to team with KUSHIDA to take on Josh Alexander, Frankie Kazarian, & Rich Swann. Fans can see the updated card for Sacrifice by clicking here.
