NJPW Cancels 8/13 Summer Struggle Show Due To A Wrestler Developing A Fever

Today's NJPW Simmer Struggle show has been canceled.

NJPW announced that an unnamed wrestler that was scheduled to compete developed a fever before the show. Although there is no word if that wrestler ended up testing positive for COVID-19, he did undergo additional testing. In order to avoid any potential health problems, NJPW has decided to cancel the event altogether.

From NJPW:

Today, Uwajima, Ehime prefecture was scheduled to see night 11 of the Summer Struggle tour.

Unfortunately, one of the wrestlers scheduled to appear had developed a fever. The wrestler immediately undertook additional COVID-19 testing, but New Japan Pro-Wrestling is still awaiting results. Under NJPW’s Coronavirus guidelines, and acting in the best interests of health and safety for other wrestlers and fans in attendance, the decision was made to cancel tonight’s event.

Refunds will be made available to all those who purchased a ticket for tonight’s event, and more information on this situation will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

No wrestler from NJPW has been known, at least publicly, to test positive for COVID-19. However, there have been wrestlers, such as Yota Tsuji and Tomoaki Honma, who had been pulled from shows after appearing on television shows where someone who was at that show ended up testing positive for COVID-19.

Fightful will keep you updated on NJPW and if more shows will get canceled.
