Andy Kaufman To Be Inducted Into The WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2023

Andy Kaufman was from Hollywood and will be immortalized in that very city on Friday, March 31, 2023.

Andy Kaufman is going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. News of Kaufman's induction was first reported by Variety. It is not yet clear who will be inducting Andy Kaufman into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Andy Kaufman's feud in the 1980s with Jerry "The King" Lawler showed the potential of celebrity crossover involvement in professional wrestling years before WrestleMania. Kaufman regularly appeared on Memphis television, wrestling women as te "Intergender Champion" and antagonized the local fans and wrestlers as being beneath him because he was from Hollywood.

Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler appeared on the David Letterman show in 1982. Lawler slapped Kaufman and the comedian proceeded to go on a profanity-laced tirade. In subsequent years, Letterman credited that episode with putting his show on the map.

Andy Kaufman's life and feud with Jerry Lawler were chronicled in the 1999 movie "Man on the Moon" where Kaufman was played by Jim Carrey.

Decades later, Andy Kaufman will take his place in the WWE Hall of Fame as WrestleMania goes Hollywood in 2023.

WWE later confirmed the induction on Twitter.
