Samoa Joe is ready to focus on the graps in AEW.
Joe shocked the world at the Worlds End pay-per-view in December, as he defeated MJF to win the AEW World Championship. This brought MJF's reign with the belt to an end at the 406 day mark.
During the Worlds End media scrum, Joe said that there will be more of a focus on the in-ring accomplishments during his reign as AEW World Champion. It seems like the star is sticking to that declaration, as he reiterated similar points in a new interview with Sports Illustrated.
“I understand the world of professional wrestling. I’ve seen things work at a very high level, and I understand the type of people backstage that it takes for that to happen. I try to be that person. As champion, you’re the standard-bearer. I’m more than happy to take up that mantle. I really want to make a focus of getting the fans’ attention back on the conflict in the ring, and a lot of the petty stuff needs to melt away. Let’s get back to entertaining people.”
Samoa Joe is set to appear on the January 10 episode of AEW Dynamite. Fans can see the full lineup for the show here.
