For 75 weeks, NXT and AEW battle every Wednesday night for viewers. AEW won the viewership battle 63 weeks with two ties and won the demographic in 74 of the 75 weeks.
Throughout the majority of the Wednesday Night Wars, Adam Cole was at the top of the mountain on the gold brand, either as the NXT Champion or in the main event. At AEW All Out, Cole made his AEW debut, choosing to leave WWE following the expiration of his contract.
Tony Khan could not be more excited.
"I'd just like to say a statement, which is that, the Wednesday Night War is over and in the demo, I believe, out of 75 episodes, we went 74-1. [Adam Cole] is the one in 74-1. When there was a Wednesday Night War, this is the man that used to strike fear into my heart every Wednesday. This guy scared the shit out of me every Wednesday. There is nobody I would rather have here and it means the world that he came," said Khan in the post-AEW All Out media scrum.
NXT won the demo on December 18, 2019. The episode was headlined by Rhea Ripley defeating Shayna Baszler to win the NXT Women's Championship.
Adam Cole defending the NXT Championship against Finn Balor opened the show.
