Tony Khan has high hopes for Top Flight in 2022.
Speaking with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, the All Elite Wrestling President shared that there are a number of people he is excited to feature on AEW programming in 2022. Specifically, he named Darius Martin as someone he would love to have back soon.
"I think for a variety of reasons, there's a number of people I'm excited to feature in the coming year," Khan said. "For example, it was completely out of everyone's control, but Darius Martin has been out injured and I think he's tremendous. I would love to get him back soon and teaming with his brother, Dante. Dante has become a big star and I think they were tremendous as a tag team."
Darius Martin underwent ACL surgery on the morning of Thursday, April 22. He last wrestled on AEW television on February 18. In the eleven months since his injury, Dante, the other half of Top Flight, has emerged as one of AEW's most exciting young talents.
"When the injury happened, Darius was 21 and Dante was 19," Khan continued on to say. "Now Dante is 20 and has been featured so much on Dynamite and Rampage and has now been a main eventer on Dynamite. When Darius comes back, I think he's somebody that could come in and be great for us. So I'm really excited about him in particular. That's an important name to keep an eye on."
During a New Year's Day appearance on Grapsody On Fightful, AEW wrestler and Extras Coordinator "Captain" Shawn Dean said that Martin is expected back soon.
"Darius Martin, who I think is about to come back off of injury soon," he said.
Fightful provides live coverage of AEW Dynamite and Rampage every Wednesday and Friday night. Dynamite is set to make their TBS debut this week with a World Title rematch between Hangman Adam Page and Bryan Danielson. Also, Jade Cargill will battle Ruby Soho to determine the inaugural TBS Champion.
