UK Wrestler Jason Prime Speaks Out About His Retirement From Wrestling After Suffering A Gruesome Injury

An extremely rough break for the rising talent.

Two months ago at a UK wrestling event, Jason "Primate" Prime suffered an injury that would be more serious than he thought in that moment. The UK talent would make an appearance at Defiant Wrestling's 'Road To No Regrets' show and surprisingly announced his retirement from the sport. In the incident, Prime suffered a broken jaw and it needed to be rebuilt and wired shut, which is why is he speaking the way that he is in the video above.

Roman Reigns: It Didn't Matter To Me If It Was Cody Rhodes Or The Rock, I Was In The Main Event No Matter What

Prime revealed that he spoke with doctors and they informed him that he had to retire from in-ring competition because even the slightest form of impact could shatter his jaw. The former Defiant Tag Team Champion spoke with the Chronicle Live and is still in shock about not being able to do what he loves.

“It was earth-shattering news for me,” Jason said afterwards. "I started in wrestling just four years ago and I’ve already achieved so much in such a short space of time. It’s been an absolute whirlwind but I don’t feel ready to give it up yet. Sadly, I have little choice. Wrestling to me is an art. I’m so passionate about it. I always wanted to make it seem as real as possible and I got the biggest kick out seeing dads who had brought their sons thinking ‘Oh my god’ as they watched my matches."

Although Jason had made a name for himself on the British wrestling scene, he was slightly worried that the Defiant faithful would not care that he was delivering his retirement speech but once he did the fans arose and showered him in "Thank you Primate" chants.

“Man, that reaction blew me away,” he reflected. “One of my biggest fears before I went out was that I’d make this announcement and everyone would just be like: ‘OK, whatever, bye’. But I need not have worried. As well as on the night, since then my Twitter has blown up. Messages from fans and colleagues sending me well-wishes. I’ve had people telling me I inspired them, they rekindled their love of wrestling because of me and one even said I helped them grow in confidence. To think I touched people’s lives that much just by getting in a ring and wrestling shows how incredible this sport is. I’m truly blessed and grateful.”

"Primate" had a tryout for WWE back in November and in his eyes he was so close to getting his shot in the sports-entertainment company and it is extremely frustrating for him that when everything was seemingly on its way up, it suddenly came crashing down.

“I can’t tell you how frustrating it is." He shared. "I feel I was so close to getting to the WWE. After my most recent try-out, William Regal told me I was doing everything right and to just keep doing what I was doing. I knew I was getting closer. That dream is no more now though. That’s so frustrating, the best way I can describe it is to imagine being in a 100 meter race and getting to the 99 meter mark and needing to stop. You come so close and then it’s just taken away from you, it’s devastating. But doctors say any impact could completely shatter my jaw so that’s it really. I have to thank my partner Kristina. As you can imagine there’s been some dark days but she has been a rock. She’s basically put her life on hold and supported me so much.”
