Zoey Stark suffered a torn ACL/Meniscus at the end of 2021, last competing in a Scareway To Hell Ladder match at NXT Halloween Havoc before her injury.
She returned to the ring on the July 19 episode of NXT television, winning the NXT Women's Title #1 Contendership Battle Royal to earn a shot at the NXT Women's Championship.
Appearing on WWE After The Bell, NXT announcer Vic Joseph revealed that Zoey Stark was working as a producer during her time on the sidelines.
When asked why she took the role, Stark said, "To become a better performer, number one. I knew I was going to come back and I knew producing is going to help me inside the ring. When you coach somebody, two people are learning. I'm learning at the same time because now I'm having to think about it. It's amazing to be able to do both sides. You get a different side of, 'Oh, this is what producers go through, I had no idea.'"
Zoey noted that she is more conscious of things on television as a performer now that she's been in the producer's chair, saying, "People want to go off and do their own thing and it throws off the producer, it throws off the camera guys, it throws off everyone. You have to be in full communication with everyone. We're all a team in this. You can't just go rogue and do your own thing. We need to help each other. We all have the same goal. We all want to have a great match and tell a story."
Stark is set to team with Nikkita Lyons in the WWE Women's Tag Team Title Tournament. The duo will face Natalya & Sonya Deville in the first round.
